Dedicated to You…"Baby Mine" Song Lyrics

(Sorry about the picture quality- tonight I took pictures and typed in my daughter’s room, with only a night light, as she fell asleep.)

Last Sunday was Fast Sunday for my church.  Fast Sunday is an opportunity to miss two meals and donate the money one would of spent on food for those meals to the needy.  It’s also a time for meditation and reflection.  When you fast you put your worldy, natural desires (i.e. FOOD) behind you, and look inward and outward.

Personally, I am more sensitive to things of a spiritual nature when I fast.  I feel God closer.  I consider what I’m doing with my life and if it’s really what’s best.  And even though fasting is very hard for me, I’m sad when it’s over because I know that higher spirit of humility will be leaving and communion with God will be a little harder again.  I know He always hears me, but I don’t always hear him.  Fasting helps with that.

So before I ended my fast this past weekend I prayed and asked if there was anything else I needed to do, while I was still fasting and more in tune with the Spirit.  The prompting came.  I felt like I needed to write a song.  I didn’t know what it was supposed to be about.  Dinner was about ready and at least one child was already seated at the table eager to eat, even though they weren’t even fasting!

But again, I felt the prompting to write a song.  I knew someone needed to hear the words I was going to be given to write.  We are often told that we are the hands of God reaching out to others when we serve and His love reaching out to others when we speak.  I think the same can be true for what we write and sing.  So I sat on my bed with a notebook and wrote.  My husband came to check on me.

“Are you OK?” He knows sometimes I get dizzy if I go too long without eating.

“Yes.  I’m good.  Just writing a song.”

He smiled, understanding.

“OK, how about I get the kids fed?  You can take all the time you need.”

I’m so thankful for a supportive, thoughtful husband!

I sat and wrote.  These are the words that came.  They are meant for and dedicated to anyone who needs them.

“Baby Mine” By Eva Barnett

I know you wonder if you’re good enough
I hear you say that everything’s too tough
But you have no idea just how much
I love all your imperfections
They’re a little piece of heaven

Because I never expected you
To be flawless at least not according to
What this world says you’re supposed to do
That’s not what I’m looking for
‘Cause I see so much more

You literally have stardust inside
So don’t try to rush, don’t you hide
The growing, the setbacks, mistakes
We’re all going through it too
Each in our own way

So just shine, even when it’s dark
The world needs your light
It’s the purest spark
So keep trying, give it all your heart
Things will work out in the end
It’s hard to see it at the start
But you’re going to make it
You just got to take it
One step at a time and pretty soon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon

Some prayers take longer than we like
To get answered and we start to lose the fight
But don’t you quit not when I’m holding you so tight
Baby, you just don’t know, ’cause I’ve never let go
And sometimes we don’t know we’re brave
Until our own fear stares us in the face
And we cry, but we don’t runaway
It’s faith through all your tears
That’s real courage dear

We all have to reach down inside
So don’t try to rush, don’t you hide
The growing, the setbacks, mistakes
We’re all going through it too
Each in our own way

So just shine, even when it’s dark
The world needs your light
It’s the purest spark
So keep trying, give it all your heart
Things will work out in the end
It’s hard to see it at the start
But you’re going to make it
You just got to take it
One step at a time and pretty soon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon

Now let me tuck you in tight
It’s time to sleep, close your eyes
And dream about easier times
I promise they’ll happen
But Baby, until then

Just shine, even when it’s dark
The world needs your light
It’s the purest spark
Keep trying, give it all your heart
Things will work out in the end
It’s hard to see it at the start
But you’re going to make it
You just got to take it
One step at a time and pretty soon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon
Baby mine, You’ll be shooting the moon
